along with my progressive anti-war movement propaganda posters, my painting above, "incoming," can be seen. this painting was inspired by a Vietnam War veteran and his descriptions of the war and subsequent flashbacks caused by freeway lighting outside the city. you can't miss the painting; it's eight feet wide.

My work is now on the walls of Vastu, a contemporary and modern furniture/furnishings store at 1829 14th Street NW in Washington DC. The pieces are all available for purchase. If you're in the neighborhood, check it out.

This past weekend, i took an encaustic class with Katie Kaufman (the instructor) at takoma park rec center. after working with encaustic for the first time, i have to say it's the most difficult medium i have used. but it can create beautiful results and serve an archival role. here's the two pieces i created on my own as studies in texture and depth:

and here are 3 of the pieces we created as exercises. from left to right, photo transfer, texture and layering. as small (5x7) and as simple as these look, each took a couple of hours.

i am considering this process for large tiled images. i like the luster of the wax. pat goslee, who also attended the workshop, is a master at encaustic painting (although she has moved in a different direction recently. take a look at her work.

My Project 52 upload: propaganda posters. I'm working on some new posters in this vein for the Peace Now exhibit:

that will most likely include images like the ones shown below taken from Soviet posters for the theater, ballet, film and circus circa 1917 to 1987:

This for is the annual peace show at the Warehouse Gallery which will open Friday, February 22 from 6-9pm. The show runs from February 22 – April 6.
