preparations continue for the "end of nature" exhibit. i am planning a room installation which may include the box of king cake babies above. the installation is based on my proposal from the meat market gallery exhibit, "intellectual property," and will use the same title: "we all fall down."

the room installation i'm proposing imagines a long-forgotten and long-lost room of an old man. while many artists in the exhibit are bemoaning the loss of species or environments, i think that the loss of mankind would be the most devastating. while man will most likely be responsible for the end of nature, it is also man that has recorded the beauty and complexity of the world. so, yes, i'll miss the imprint of mankind on the world at the end of nature.

in my exploration for the exhibit, "end of nature," i painted a handful of images like these below. i'm not sure they represent how i want to communicate, but i've grown to really like each for their simplicity:

Two new 20"x20" paintings.

I am also currently doing the PR for a show i'm in that opens on april 11 at the warehouse theater. it's called the "end of nature." it's designed to coincide with Earth Day activities and examines what artists will miss most when we have finally exhausted the planet. you can view the information for this show by clicking here. from the images i've seen of the work, it looks to be an interesting show curated by ruth trevarrow.

From March 3, the two 48" x 60" paintings have evolved (and will continue to do so) into this:

and a new work in progress:

Ira Tattelman and I entered the image below to the DC Commission on Arts & Humanities 2008 Artwalk competition—a large-scale outdoor exhibit on the site of the old convention center in downtown DC (between New York Avenue and H Streets, NW). The theme of the 2008 ArtWalk installation is "emerge."

Our entry, titled "the memory of tomorrow," is a composite of three images Ira took at a wedding in South Africa. it was chosen, along with 11 others, for installation at the end of March or early April. The final product will be 24 feet long and 6 feet tall.

More good news: as of this date, three of my paintings have been purchased at Vastu (see February 20th entry). the two below are being taken to Vastu today. they now look like this:
