A year ago memorial day weekend, i packed up my stuff and moved back to DC from new orleans. it's hard to believe a year has passed so quickly. it has been great. i certainly appreciate all the good things that have happened so far.

before i leave, i wanted to point out an exhibition that opens on thursday, may 29. it's called "Through the Lens of D.C. Youth" and is organized by a nonprofit called Critical Exposure. go to their site and make a contribution. they help students and organizations advocate more effectively for excellence and equity in public education—by putting cameras in the hands of kids who document their school days. it's an effective tool that allows policymakers and legislators to see the current condition of public schools. the invitation to the opening is here.

Today's view:

Today's studio:
this past weekend was the midcity artists open studios—a twice-yearly opportunity to clean my studios for visitors. i was open on saturday only. i had 90 visitors. i counted this year. i sold a photograph and a painting. thanks for visiting!

also, if you haven't seen it before, a reminder that my monday postings are part of my friend melia's project 52. the goal being to upload something new every monday of the year. we're already at week 20. hard to believe. it's a great project because it encourages the five of us participating to be productive, nonjudgemental, and motivated. melia is showing some work for the very first time at this year's artomatic. it was a big leap for her and she's done a great job.

With water dripping from the ceiling in my apartment in multiple places, i haven't had time to upload a real entry for the Project 52 monday entry. so instead, here's a collection of my 20x20 paintings from both the abstract landsacpe series and a new one i'm call "ugly pretty."
