The opening at Caramel was fantastic. thanks to everyone who came to see my photos. they're up until january 9, 2009, so stop by Caramel and check them out. the shop hours are thursday-friday, 12-9pm; saturday 11-7pm; and sunday 12-6pm.

now i'm working on paintings for a show in december. below are four new pieces (10x10 inches). the top two are finished. bottom two in progress.

part of the reason i am suffering as i do over painting at the moment:

ms. smith is referring to two shows in chelsea currently: "Acts and Scenes" by Xiaoze Xie at the Charles Cowles Gallery and “Eyes on His Body” by Johannes Kahrs at Luhring Augustine.

while i don't mind people telling me that aspects of my paintings remind them of famous artist X, Y or Z, i mind terribly when i see something locally the I FEEL looks like something i'm doing. it inevitably sends me back to my studio to paint over the offending piece(s).

some might argue that my obsessive need to be one-of-a-kind is unhealthy. but part of the reason i paint is ingrained in this desire to express ideas uniquely from my perspective. if anything, seeing pieces similar to mine encourages me to dig even deeper into my experiences for that thing that is different.see, not so unhealthy.
